The most common reason an engine cranks slowly while driving is a weak or discharged battery that cannot supply enough power to the starter motor. Corroded or loose battery terminals and damaged battery cables can also restrict the flow of electrical current, reducing cranking speed. In colder weather, engine oil becomes thicker, increasing the effort required to crank the engine.
